We are excited that the 4th Annual Snapping Tortuga Open Water Swim is fast approaching.   When we started this race we had no idea how quickly it would grow. The Snapping Tortuga has entrants coming in from all over the country and our goal is to build this into a first class national level race.   We are well on our way with your help.

 

Again, you will see improvements to the Snapping Tortuga. We will have tons of kayakers on the water for support, amazing sponsors, fantastic buoys to sight, a great course venue, the best swag bags around, fun competition and terrific post race food.

Location:

 

Boat Ramps 14099 FM 830 Wills, TX

 

Water Temperature/Wetsuits: 

 

The current water temperature can be checked online please visit www.sjra.net.  You must declare at check in whether you will or will not being wearing a wetsuit at the race.

 

Parking:

 

As shown on the course map below, parking is available on the side of the road leading into the venue. There will be a small section marked off by caution tape. This section is reserved for Boats/trailers.

 

Event Insurance:

 

The Snapping Tortuga has purchased its own event insurance in order to make sure that everyone is covered. EVERYONE participating in the event must show either a USAT, US Masters or USA Swimming card in order to participate. IF you do not have any of those cards, you need to purchase a one-day Snapping Tortuga card for $10.

 

Warm-up:

 

The race course will be opened for a brief warm-up before the start of the race. You will be required to exit the water before the start of the race to attend the mandatory pre-race meeting.

 

Pre-Race Meeting:

 

There will be a mandatory pre-race meeting 15 minutes before the start of the 5k, 2.5k swims and 500m swims. You will be given a course description, safety information and helpful tips on how to stay ahead of the Snapping Tortuga.

 

Restrooms:

 

We will have port-o-potties on site.  There are no other facilities available in the area.

 

Event T-Shirts:

 

Due to the lead times required for shirts to be produced and the increased number of participants for this event, there is a chance we may run out of shirts at registration. IF this should occur, don’t worry, we will take your name, address, and size; and have it mailed out to you within 2 weeks of the event. We apologize in advance IF this does occur but we will get you what was promised as quickly as possible.

 

Awards:

 

Go to the Top 3 Overall for each Division. Please remember, if you choose to wear a wetsuit you are NOT eligible for awards.  Awards will be presented shortly after the conclusion of the 500m.

 

Packet Pick Up:

 

For all Pre Registered Athletes, follow the Signs placed on the appropriate table in order.

 

Visit Table:

 

1) If you NEED a one day Snapping Tortuga License

2) To show proof of your USAT License, US Masters or USA Swimming License

* Volunteers will mark your hand so you can proceed to table 3

3) Receive Athlete Number and Swim Cap

3a) RACE DAY REGISTRATION ONLY

4) Receive Fit Kit and Race Shirt (Juniors can purchase a shirt at this location)

 

Race Day Schedule:

 

*10:45am-11:45am           Race Day Registration/Packet Pick Up

*11:50pm                          Course Talk and Open Water Swimming Tips

*12:00pm                          5k and 2.5k Open Water Swim Start

*2:00pm                            5k and 2.5k Race Complete

*1:45pm                            500m check in

*2:15pm                            500m estimated start time (500m will start 15 mins after conclusion of 5k)

*2:30pm                            Course is closed.
